A few minutes on foot

Sandbaai Beach

The closest stretch of coast to the property. A quiet, rocky-and-sand beach used mostly by locals walking dogs and swimming at low tide. Best late afternoon, when the light comes off Walker Bay.

Whale watching

Southern right whales come into Walker Bay to calve, often close enough to watch from the shore. Hermanus is one of the few places in the world where land-based viewing is this good.

A coastal path running the length of the town, from Fernkloof mouth to Grotto Beach. Flat, well-marked and easy to join for a half-hour stretch or a full morning.

One of South Africa’s best cool-climate wine regions, known for pinot noir and chardonnay, with three wards running up the valley behind Hermanus.

Roughly 60 km of trails through fynbos above the town, with a visitor centre, easy loops and longer climbs up the Kleinrivier mountains.
